Rainbow Swiss Chard

While it looks and tastes like a cousin of spinach, chard is actually closely related to beets! With a sweet, nutty green leaf and a crunchy, earthy stalk - chard is versatile and super delicious!

One great thing about chard is that you can use it in just about any recipe that calls for greens. Swap it for spinach, kale… you name it!

Storage Instructions

Store the crisper drawer of your refrigerator for up to a week.

TO PRESERVE: separate stems from leaves. Blanch stems for 90 seconds and leaves for 60 seconds. Squeeze out excess water before freezing. I like to freeze mine in 2-cup increments in a flat ziploc bag OR in 1-cup increments in a silicone muffin pan (with the frozen pucks transferred to a gallon size freezer bag). Use for winter quiches, soups, and omelettes.

 
 

Grower’s Notes

Chard is a garden HERO and it produces mightily through all types of weather. For that reason, you will see it often throughout the year. If ever it feels like “gosh, NOW what do I do with it?” remember that it’s a perfect substitute for spinach in cooked recipes, and is very easy to freeze for winter consumption.
