Hi, I’m Erin, head farmer and resident mom to all manner of living things at The Cedar Chest Farm! Together with my family, I tend our farmstead in Southwest Virginia, aiming to educate and empower homegrown-minded folks in their journey towards self-sustenance. Whether you’re living in town and supporting local growers, or seeking to raise your own food and resources more rurally, I am excited to partner with you in treasuring old ways, delighting in good food, and stewarding the good world around us.

I believe in the strength and resilience of the local community and I believe wholeheartedly in the value of homegrown and handmade. Our family farm exists with both aims: to provide sustainably-grown, nutritionally dense foods to our neighbors and friends in the New River Valley, and to equip locals and others around the world as they seek a more homegrown lifestyle. We do this through in-person workshops and events on the farm as well as online education. Visit the Events page to see some of our upcoming offerings! And be sure to follow along with our journey through the Farm Journal and Instagram.

Whether it be the food on your table, your favorite sweater on a cold day, or a host of daily useful objects between— life just tastes, smells, and feels better when you start from scratch. Let’s grow a good life, together!

On cedar chests…

Every name tells a story, and The Cedar Chest Farm comes from an intentional bent to nostalgia. Cedar chests are a place of safe-keeping; whether protecting heirlooms from generations long before, or stowing away beloved treasures for your children and grandchildren, we rely on the cedar chest to preserve tradition and precious keepsakes.

Here at The Cedar Chest Farm, our mission is the same— to preserve the tried-and-true methods of tending land and livestock, using as gentle and sustainable an approach as possible, and to pass this knowledge and way of “older living” to anyone who wishes to share it.
